after a sudden picnic at dow's lake this weekend.

a few photos from esther's third birthday-day...we had a wonderful time! the weather cleared after days of rain and gloom, and the kids took full bellies of cake and fresh air.

a race or two through the the splash-pad cleaned up all the birthday suits...
the cake said "happy birthday me!"

the requested gift was a guitar. (a darling ukelele) esther then informed her dad that they could now be in a band together, but after a jam session, added that she "needed a break" and "can't make any promises" about that commitment..

back to the future

edgar, with his uncle philip and uncle andrew...proof that they can start as small 'n' chubby babies, and become tall 'n' wirey "big boys".

rainy days, lately, so lots of makeshift indoor fun. the costume box was a big hit, even with edgar.

squirrels

this is the way edgar wakes up. witness an actual sequence of a rousing from a snooze in the car.

he seems to be a morning person, an evening person, and a mid-afternoon person... what a good sport.

esther and i watched a mama squirrel improve upon her nest in the linden tree this evening; with nimble paws and teeth that squirrel danced among the branches, nipping off leafy twigs as she went.

if we held our breath just right, we could hear the soft mewling of her kits, way up high. it will be exciting to keep an eye on their progress...and one eye on horton as well.
