the perfect oatmeal chocolate chip cookie.
we have been scrumptiousing our way through batch after batch of these things lately...the most "little helper" friendly cookie recipe i know...a playclay-like dough that is very forgiving.
1 c butter
1 c brown sugar
1 c all purpose flour
1 c wheat flour
2 c rolled oats
1 t baking soda
1 t baking powder
1 t vanilla
1/2 t salt
***
1/2 c hot water
***
1 c chocolate chips
(if you are crazy, substitute raisins for chocolate,
and add 1/2 t nutmeg and 1 t cinnamon)
~~
dump everything in a bowl, add the hot water, mush up with the hands and then squash in the chocolate chips.
~~
smush by tablespoons onto an ungreased baking tray
~~
bake at 375 for 10 minutes or so.
~~
the dough freezes well, so it is worthwhile to double-batch it
and store a bunch frozen in a pre-tablespooned state for an afternoon treat
or 2 or 3 or 4...
