Peony please me, oh yeah...

By all means, stop and smell the roses,

but don't ignore the pleasures of the lovely peony.

If you know where one lives, race over, 

bury your face in her, and let the world walk by for a few breaths.

in our 'hood, the annual victoria day celebrations usually include a visit to the

cheerfully painted travelling carnival.

modern-day gypsies seem to run this caravan of fun...

there is a marked contrast between the rugged carnies

and the glowing freshfaced children.

the ferris wheel is still the main attraction,

the view helps plan the rides to come.

some of them are a little time-worn...so it is good to know there are controls for specific incidents.

this year, we washed down all the fun with purple.

the girl had been itching to treat nana to a spa day...

yogourt-oatmeal masque parfait, anyone?



whole-wheat-bran-oat-banana-chocolate-chip muffin

so, there was sale on all-bran cereal.  i bought the all-bran cereal.

no-one here (myself included) eats the all-bran cereal.

ergo, muffins!

thought i would try a less bran-y version by subbing in some oats;

the verdict?  they are all gone.

WWBOBcc muffins

makes 24

preheat oven to 400 degrees.

in bowl 1, soak:

2 C all bran cereal

1 C quick oats

in

2 C milk type liquid

(i used unsweetened chocolate almond milk)

after 2-3 minutes add:

 2 eggs

1 well mashed banana

1/3 C oil

in bowl 2, combine 1C sugar

2T baking powder

2 2/3 C whole wheat flour

1/2 t salt

1 t cinnamon

a handful of chocolate chips.

pour contents of bowl 1 into bowl 2,

fold/stir until combined.

scoop into prepared muffin tins and bake

20-22 minutes.

treasure islands

it is impossilble to organize all of the bits and bobs

in this house...so i have quite a few boxes that are just

bits and bobs.  these boxes come in handy on loose-ends sort of days,

days when we might have a little extra pizza dough lying around as a canvas...

(also known as days i forget to add the yeast to the pizza dough.)

on this day, the scraps turned into a beach of  butterflies and basking beauties,

and an island oasis, guarded by fierce beasts!
