fun gal

bored?
sock puppet fun for everyone!
i thought they went on the hands, but was corrected.

edgar picked his favourite, also.

fun guy

i am convinced that the main reason david wanted children was in order to provide a great excuse to play in the snow.wheeeeeee!esther had fun too!

licks a lot like christmas...

esther and i assembled a gingerbread house together, and we managed to leave enough unscathed candies to make for a very well decorated house indeed! i did move it away from nibbling level fairly quickly, however.
it now rests atop the player-piano, and i am happy to report that the little ginger folk teeter merrily along with the robust performances of jingle bells, and o holy night!
dance, little snacks, dance...for tomorrow...
yum!

bear-thday.

some belated documentation of edgar's first birthday-time... suspicion turns to amazement...
to delight,

to the reminder that esther is still bigger.

patience, my darling.

birthday boy....ish.

not a picture of edgar on his birthday, no...they are still locked inside a digital world, in need of a misplaced USB cable.
this is not even being posted on his actual birthday, but one day later, a tribute to the flying of time.
so!
this little fellow has topped our home up with joy for a full year already!
what a gift.

how i felt about food this weekend

a very moveable feast,

fashioned during our car-time to toronto this weekend...i packed a picnic basket of felt scraps, beads, embroidery floss and needles and got cooking...

for the tea table,

a hearty entree,

with sauce and cheese,

and a light luncheon.

very light indeed!

this felt food is destined for esthers' play kitchen, but man, i am going to enjoy it first!

more to come!

i may promote my more successful templates on http://etsy.com/

for interested diners.

signs

now that he is such a crawler, the young fellow has been getting into all kinds of mischief.
in order to guide her brother, esther suggested a series of visual aids.
This one is a very good idea,
who knew a sign would be required...?......and my personal favourite...

works like a charm.
our little friend thomas suggested "no babies touching the hot teapot",
so i'd better get cracking with the scotch tape and markers...
tea party this afternoon!

montreal-eh

no photos this time,but man, i sure wish i had some...david dragged us to montreal yesterday, and i by no means wanted to go. it is pop-montreal weekend, a music event full of super hipsters and cooler-than-thou events.
++++++++++
me?
tired, and responsible for two crazy little time-bombs is this sea of smoothness? not-so-much.
++++++++++++
well.
not to allow david an i-told-you-so, i am still ultra tired, but we ended up having a really fun time, attending ther kelp records bar-bq, (esther and david playing tambourine for angela desveaux' set...photo please),
++++++++
staying at a very modest two star bed and breakfast (another photo? i invite you to imagine the ball-capped breakfast-monitor entering the room barking "ne touche pas ca, monsier!" to the other lone breakfaster as a costo muffin whirred illegally in the shabby microwave....)
+++++++++++
making it to the biodome (an ecosystem zoo near the olympic stadium) and back again on the last drops of hydraulic effort available to our cars' leaking steering system. (picture a really cheesed-off golden marmoset)
+++++++++++
oh, man, were those kids great. each of them, and together. they seemed to have a really fabulous time, and were so cheerful and fun!
the kids and i took the train back home to ottawa this evening, arriving way post bed time, (david will be driving home with band-mates after their show) and not one rotten moment.
polite and lovely.
(another missed photo-op.)
+++
oh, esther's summary of the trip was thus...
"why do so many people here speak the bo-ju language?"
that's french, dear.
bonjour a tous.

handy crafts

oh, no! the paw-parazzi!more crafter-noon fun as edgar snoozes...

sculpture class

the recycle bin and a sheaf of misappropriated charity address stickers (sorry, frances louise bryan, but we keep getting your admail...) led to an extended session of creativity....

good to the very last sticker.

party pollys

i was greeted by a scene of miniature mayhem upon my return from work; ladies and dogs lounging beside their cerealbox cabana, under a sky filled with cardboard balloons.
david and esther had thrown a giant polly pocket birthday party, complete with hats, sunglasses, cake and presents. forgive me for indiscreetly grabbing the camera...

panja

we have had a big day, on my young ladies' bidding, making pink sparkly binoculars, a picture frame for a robot family portrait, the robot portrait itself, and a painted shoebox.

the shoebox is especially for her new fancy cardboard cupid flip-flops! as soon as edgar wakes from his snooze, i am required to make him a pair of flip-flops also. oh, and his own box to store them in.

by the way, esther says 'panja' is the name of her new pet.

a picture of whom i have just been enlisted to draw...

it's all about the sweater.

edgar, 9 months wearing the sweater,

esther, 13 months, wearing the sweater.
i made it, you see...and actually finished it before the girl grew out of it! just nice to see that my boy will get cosy autumn use out of it as well.

rhymes with poop

the answer is 'croup'.
that is why her cough sounds like a walrus, and her voice sounds like kathleen turner.
another feverish night, but nothing too serious,
just another childhood illness tested out for fun.
et tu edgar?

fever

i think she is feeling better.
our wee girl wan't herself last night at all. no struggling toward bed-time, no imploring for just one more book, no bouncing on the bed. she just tucked in and curled up to sleep.

later, after whispering "should we take her temperature?" to one another over her warm sleeping self, came the gravelly interjection from the subject in question...
"yes you should."

she was hot indeed, (39 C) but responded well to a dose of tylenol and a cool cloth for her head.

no more fever, but still a good reason for
a day of taking it easy with her brother in the den.

cheeky

"bacon, ham or sausage, sir?"
breakfast at pubwells.

suppertime?

would someone please inform these kids that i used to get PAID to feed people?

pick of the crop

blueberries
it is foraging season in the north. blueberries, raspberries and pincherries, sugarplums and labrador tea. there is a profusion this year, and we harvested some of the glory at the cottage last week...in bare feet yummily perfumed by the resinous scent of sweetfern and crisp wintergreen.
pincherry shrub

pincherries, enough for three jars of rosy pink jelly.

i know, i know, so where are the baby pictures...
it is also still bug season.

mud vs. lipstick

mud.

lipstick.

the choice is open to the modern girl.
just ensure that you enlist someone to hold your purse.
